Express Entry Point Based Selection Criteria
Express Entry Point-Based Selection Criteria
The Express Entry system is Canada’s flagship immigration program, designed to manage applications for permanent residency under three federal economic immigration streams: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Points-Based System:
Express Entry uses a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank candidates based on various factors, each assigned a specific point value. The highest-ranked candidates are then invited to apply for permanent residency through regular draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Key Selection Factors:
- Age: Candidates between 18 and 35 years receive the maximum points, with points decreasing gradually for older applicants.
- Education: Higher levels of education (such as a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or Ph.D.) from recognized institutions can earn candidates’ significant points.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English and/or French is crucial. Candidates are awarded points based on their language test scores (e.g., IELTS, CELPIP, TEF).
- Work Experience: Candidates with skilled work experience in Canada or abroad can earn points, with additional points awarded for Canadian work experience.
- Adaptability: Factors such as having a job offer in Canada, family members living in Canada, or having completed previous studies in Canada can contribute to a candidate’s overall score.
